If your bike did not come with an owners manual it is well worth the time and money to purchase one.

Irregular tire pressure is the culprit of many tire problems. Poor handling of the bike, premature wear and tire cupping can all be avoided by checking your tire pressure at least once a week.

Keeping your motorcycle oil changed on time but also checking the level regularly can help prevent costly engine damage.

First, make sure to consult the owner’s or service manual for the correct procedure in which this particular motorcycle needs to have the level checked. Some bikes will have a dipstick and others a sight glass.

All bikes need to be on flat ground with no incline. Having someone sit on the bike is a good way to make sure it will be level in the motor casing.

When the bike is cold the oil should reach the low mark and when the bike is hot, the oil level should not go above the high mark.

Nowadays there are all kinds of easy ways to clean and lube a motorcycle chain. Owners manuals will give specific mileage intervals of when a chain needs to be lubed. Our general recommendation is that a chain be lubed when the bike is hot (after a decent ride) every 350 miles.

Cleaning the chain will be dependent on the areas in which you have been riding. If you go through some areas of dust and dirt that will stick on the lube of the chain and cause the cleaning to be needed much sooner than if you are riding on clean surface streets with no dirt or rain interaction. Dirt bikes and ATV’s should have very frequent chain clean and lube due to the riding environment.

A clean lubed chain will help maintain the life of the chain and prevent it from sticking creating a smooth driving action.
